So, I’ve decided to start a new blog for a new year. I think I have a smattering of blogs littered somewhere in the cybersphere that have been neglected each year. I need to stop doing that. I can make up a million and one reasons why I would suddenly abandon each of them, but alas, I’ve finally found a service that can cater for my creative streak.
That aside, today was supposed to be reserved for writing job applications, but again, I’m distracted. I will share that yesterday I received my exit result for my final subject, which means that I’m now an entry level speech-language pathologist. Huzzah! I can now answer that, “What do you do for a living?” question with something other than “I’m a pleb getting coffee and being ordered around by imbeciles”. No offence to those who’ve held similar job roles to those I’ve had in the past – i have a lot of respect for you, but it just wasn’t for me.
A few things have changed this year as well. I moved back to Brisbane after living in Sydney for three years finishing my clinical masters degree, and I’m finally in the same city as the fiance (who will therein be pseudonym, BugLite). Last year was a tough one for both of us. I was living away from him for the first time in seven years, in a city where I had no immediate family, trying to complete a postgraduate education that can be likened to a Spartan arena held in the depths of Mordor. Towards the end of the year, I began to focus a lot more on the positive experiences I’d had – forming strong bonds with new friends/colleagues, finding my self-confidence again, gaining a sense of conviction, and finally knowing where it is I’m headed in life. I must admit that I hold a soft spot for Sydney, if not for the abundance of recreational options, but for all the memories.
So what does 2014 hold for me?
I’m not one for new year resolutions. Quite frankly, I’m the best procrastinator in the world, and if it’s something that can’t sustain my motivation and attention I abandon it. I am, however, a very keen supporter and user of To Do lists. This is exactly what I’ve created for myself, albeit, a very short one.
Behold, my 2014 checklist:
- Find and maintain a professional job
- Move out of my parents place
- Maintain fitness levels
- Appreciate Brisbane more
- Remember the silver lining
And now you wonder how is this actually different from new year resolutions? I think of checklists as being more dynamic than new year resolutions, but you can argue me on that, too. As you complete each item, you can add more items as you go, or not, whatever takes your fancy. I’m not going to get into the details of each of these points because it’s pretty self-explanatory if you ask me.
Now that I’ve used up a good chunk of my day exploring the features on this blog service, I think I might get cracking on number 1 of my checklist and keep going with the job applications.
