The Calendar Wheel

Hi folks! A little over a month ago, I posted this pic on my Instagram account.

– this was a future planning hack I created in March which I’ve called the calendar wheel. I was inspired by something similar I found on the Moleskine website a few years back and wanted to give it my spin. I love mind mapping and my brain functions visually so this was something I toyed with and worked well. I basically wrote down all events, appointments, birthdays and connected them to the corresponding date/day on the wheel. Thinking of doing again for July and possibly selling some blank ones in my Etsy store. Hmmm, now to find the time to actually do it hahaha hope everyone is having a fab start to their week! 😄💕 UPDATE: for those wondering, this was hand drawn by me using mathematical instruments 😁 all my etsy products are hand drawn #bulletjournal #bulletjournaljunkies #midoritravelersnotebook #plannerd #planning #calendar #handwriting #writing #mindmap #notes #notebookaddict #stationery #journal #journaling #wearebujo #calendarwheel

I had been playing around with future planning ideas back in March, and the calendar wheel was the end product of my experimentations. I never imagined how much attention this little post of mine would generate and how much interest people had, to the point that I’d see numerous renditions of these every day since I posted it. All of them are so lovely and I thoroughly enjoy seeing what others have created based on my inspiration. So thank you to the planning community for the love :)

I’ve also had numerous questions about how the heck to use the calendar wheel, so here’s a short explanation. I am a highly visual person, and mind maps have always been my go to tool for organising and remembering a lot of info. I had used Patrick Ng’s Chronodex system in the past (I still have my planner from the very first version of this still filed away in my journal archives) and asked myself whether something like this could work in terms of monthly planning. I had seen this Moleskine version back in 2014 but wasn’t a fan of just having the dates on there without the actual corresponding days. I needed to know what date went with what day so I created an inner circle and also a blank space in the top left quadrant for any miscellaneous tidbits I wanted to jot down for the month. Plus, this provided surplus space for events, appointments, etc. if it didn’t fit in the allocated days.

So in a nutshell: I’d draw a line from the date outwards and write the time and appointment details. It’s that simple. For the ‘Notes’ section, I do the same thing.

My original IG post showed how I used the calendar wheel as a scheduling tool, but I had toyed with this idea as a memory keeping tool in February, and there’s no stopping you from using it as a habit tracker.

As a thank you to the community for their support and patience since posting this and for the number of delays making it available in my Etsy store (due to health and family-related concerns), I’m offering August and September Calendar Wheels FREE here on my blog – click here for the FREE download. All I ask is that you please not distribute these for profit, and if you post on social media to tag me (@decadethirty) because I love seeing your creativity! Also, please redirect others to this blog post instead of sharing the PDF file :)

The following are available in my Etsy shop:

  • BLANK calendar wheels in sizes 4.5cm and 6cm: these are not specific to any year so you can fill them out as you need them
  • October to December 2016 Calendar Wheel – TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 31, 2016

If you like these calendar wheels, please consider purchasing the rest or make your own using my PDF printables. All my products are handwritten using my everyday handwriting, which gives you the opportunity to own a sample that is often requested by readers. I hope you all enjoy these, and please share and tag, or purchase more. Thank you for the love and support :)
